Minturn was at one point in history the "lettuce capital of the nation" as they say. Robert Bowne Minturn, Jr. (VP of Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad) coined the name for the town. Ever heard of Lionshead? Named after a rock silhouette profile resembling a lion's face overhanging in Minturn, Lionshead earned its name. Since 2014, however, the rock has disintegrated beyond recognition due to natural forces.
