Minturn

Minturn

Welcome to Minturn

Minturn was at one point in history the "lettuce capital of the nation" as they say. Many farmers succeeded in farming quality & plenty of lettuce, even coined "green gold" at one point during the mining fervor! While some farmed the land & some farmed for gold & silver, the railroad Rio Grande was the transportation crossing that made the area blossom.

Robert Bowne Minturn, Jr. (VP of Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad) coined the name for the town. Ever heard of Lionshead? Named after a rock silhouette profile resembling a lion's face overhanging in Minturn, Lionshead earned its name. Since 2014, however, the rock has disintegrated beyond recognition due to natural forces.

Minturn's hiking, biking, & skinning trails are coveted by locals but to be enjoyed by all. Minturn's essence of an old Colorado town still remains. When visiting Minturn, don't forget to visit the Minturn Saloon: popular for post-Minturn Mile skiers coming from Vail Mountain, this restaurant has been in operation since 1901!
